What does it mean to be inspired by food? When you bite into a delicious well prepared, wonderfully detailed dish with high quality ingredients that's when you feel happy inside and life is just wholesome. I've lost count how many times I've eaten here but it's been several months now and the quality and perfection of the food is always excellent! The service isn't always going to be fast and sometimes you have to be prepared to wait but they try their best to accommodate the lunch crowd and they do a good job of it. I don't have a favorite hand roll flavor and honestly I wouldn't be able to decide. All of them are delicious, fresh, and wonderfully prepared. I love that they have a less rice option for the carb conscious as well! I do want to take note of the Potato croquette. This savory side dish is delicate and crispy on the outside and really fluffy and creamy on the inside. It's exquisitely prepared and I order this every single time! Wait times can be long during lunch so I'd recommend ordering from their website beforehand. Service however, is impeccable and very accomodating.

Our new favorite sushi place in Austin. The quality of fish is exceptional. We had the Omakase and it was phenomenal. We'll be back for sure. They have a small restaurant next to the omakase restaurant. We'll definitely be stopping by for sushi.

This restaurant nails both taste and efficiency. Ordering online via Toast was smooth. The hand rolls are simply fantastic with fresh fish and delightful flavors. Highly recommend the chef speciality options!

First time coming to Springdale General! There is a lot of parking but each stall is quite small. You may have a harder time squeezing in if you drive a big car/SUV. There are multiple businesses and buildings but we visited Uroko for their temaki (handrolls). Uroko itself only has one table but luckily my family grabbed it. You can eat at the tables outside too but there aren't any big tables for families. The temaki are delicious but quite expensive. They are not very filling unless you order like 4 per person. I do want to try their omakase, Tonari, one day (reservations are required and can be made online).

I just finished the omakase experience at TONARI by Uroko. The sushi bar is to the right of Uroko. When you walk in, you sit at the sushi bar and are greeted by the sushi chef and the assistant that serves drinks/ assist in the meal. There are a total of 12 dishes, but we did end up getting 14 ( they added a ceviche for the first course and at the end a dessert course). The meal is a timed 45 minutes which went by pretty fast, but the sushi chef answered any questions I had during the meal. The food: The fish was very fresh with very different/ flavorful accompaniments to each piece of sashimi. The play on textures and fresh herbs is my favorite. I love when fresh ginger, shiso leaf, or crispy quinoa made it in the bite. Also, all the food was very beautiful and almost too pretty to eat. My ending conversation with the two chefs was joining the waiting list for their all you can eat omakase. The event happens ~once a month, but sells out very quickly. Forgive the descriptions on the pictures. I really wanted to enjoy the meal and forgot most of what the sushi chef said when explaining each dish.

NOTE: THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE MURAL REVEAL EVENT AT UROKO / TONARI ON 1/30/2024 Our recent visit to Uroko/Tonari's facade at Springdale General turned out to be an unexpected delight, thanks to the much-anticipated mural reveal that left us thoroughly impressed. The excitement had been building through the newsletter, piquing our curiosity about the mural, the renowned artist, Baki Baki and the vibrant community that receives Uroko's updates. The evening exceeded our expectations as we witnessed a captivating live demonstration by Baki Baki, who had flown in all the way from Japan to grace Austin with his artistic prowess. The mural, a masterpiece that seamlessly blended traditional and contemporary elements, was a perfect addition to the space, transforming it into a dynamic canvas that echoed the artist's unique vision. The entertainment provided by local counterpart Peelander Yellow added an extra layer of fun to the atmosphere. Despite the DJ's eclectic tunes, which unfortunately got drowned out by the lively chatter of the guests, the overall vibe was upbeat and enjoyable. As we marveled at the mural, we were treated to a culinary feast with discounted handrolls, Japanese chips, mochi, and an array of sakes. The complimentary beer from Austin Beer Works was a pleasant surprise, adding to the overall festive spirit of the evening. This event was a true celebration of artistic collaboration and cultural exchange, bringing together international talent and local flair. The unique experience of witnessing Baki Baki's live demonstration, combined with Peelander Yellow's entertaining presence, made the evening unforgettable.

I happened to be at Springdale and wandered past Uroko on a Saturday afternoon. What a gem! Their hand rolls are so good and so reasonably priced. I had the maguro (tuna) and the avocado yuzu (vegetarian) and they were both excellent. I finally got to go to Japan a few months ago and Uroko definitely satisfied my craving for good sushi. The space is really pretty and they also have an omakase dinner menu and Japanese snacks. Definitely worth stopping by!

Came here on a Saturday late afternoon and it the area was pretty empty. I ordered the sake Toro (fatty salmon) and the spicy tuna. It was delicious and flavorful. I personally love Wasabi, so I added a bit of Wasabi and it was perfection. I think two hand rolls was perfect for me today, but could maybe go for 3 if I'm really hungry.

My friend and I visited Uroko on a Saturday for a catch-up dinner, and it was relatively quiet. We tried to book the omakase, but it was fully booked - maybe next time! It is located in a food hall area with a coffee shop and bakery nearby, providing a casual space that suited our needs perfectly. Upon arrival, the staff guided us through the different hand rolls and drink offerings. I opted for two chef creation rolls: 1. Sake Toro: Fatty salmon, umami cucumber, avocado, ginger, lemon ginger, and shiso. 2. Beef Tataki: Chopped raw beef tenderloin, pickled jalapeño, shiso, fried shallot, ginger, and umami jelly. Both rolls were fresh and bursting with flavor. Despite my initial worry that two rolls wouldn't be enough, I left pleasantly full.

This area of Austin is a mix of an escape away from the hustle and bustle and adventure. In a space shared with a handful of local shops, Uroko is a fun place to enjoy some finger foods to refuel while working in a shared city-working space. This time we tried some of the Temaki and we look forward to reserving for the Omakase in the future. Tried the Spicy Tuna and the Aji Tataki. Fun concept, but will admit small portions. I'd recommend Temaki if you're wanting to try something new, and not in need of anything more than just a couple bites of flavor. Service is attentive and walked us through all questions we had, making recommendations for our first time and next time.
